Growing up with nine musical siblings, Alexz Johnson had it even better than the members of the Partridge Familythere were, after all, only five of them. “We jammed in the basement all the time," says Johnson, 18, who heads up the cast of CTV’s new teen drama, Instant Star. “I was the singer, but my brothers didn’t like doing a lot of pop music. So we played some Corey Hart, but stuck mainly to old stuff. That’s why I love Fleetwood Mac and Bob Dylan.” On Instant Star, Johnson plays 15-

year-old Jude Harrison, the winner of a Canadian ldol-ke contest. “I never watched much of Idol, but went through a lot of what Jude’s dealing with,” says the Vancouver-based actor/singer, who made her TV debut on Disney’s So Weird in 2000. “I went to L.A. to record music when I was 15 and was turning down labels that wanted to make me into a Britney Spears. I’m more a folky, writemy-own-stuff-and-play-guitar type.” But that won’t stop her from playing a pop star on TV. JOHN INTINI
