UNIVERSITY RANKINGS

The quality and dedication of students have an enormous impact on the learning environment. Maclean’s takes two measures of entering grades, and calculates the proportion of first-year students who return for a second year—fullor part-time. Other measures include the proportion of students graduating within a reasonable time, the success of the student body at winning national awards, and the university’s ability to draw students from outside its province, and around the world.

AVERAGE ENTERING GRADE

Students are enriched by the calibre of their peers. Here are the average final-year grades of first-year students entering from high school or Quebec’s

CÉGEP system.

While the Maclean’s ranking takes account of the average entering grade of first-year students arriving from high school or CÉGEP, the average tells only part of the story. What percentage of those students entered with grades within each of the following ranges?
