THE LIFE GUARD AND THE LADY

And sun-tanned in his noontime glance,

And, with an undiluted guile,

She made of every circumstance,

Though practiced in a smooth technique, She could not melt his attitude—

He smiled and smiled, but failed to seek Even a chatty interlude,

And charmed her fatally, when rude!
