PARADE

The best tonic we’ve heard of to beat that start-of-the-year slump is a local custom that blossomed from sheer exhaustion in the lusty cowtown of Williams Lake, B.C., and has finally been recognized in an official municipal by-law. It’s Wrestling Day, which follows New Year’s Day exactly as Boxing Day follows Christmas. This has the makings of a distinctive national holiday that might get a lot more votes than any flag.

Parade pays $5 to $10 for true anecdotes. Address Parade c/o Maclean’s.
