What the U.S. wants — it gets

In his article, Water: The Sellout That Could Spell The End Of Canada, Walter Stewart seems to think that American ownership of Canada's water will doom Canada. Doesn't he know that most of Canada's natural resources, industries and businesses are owned by and answer to the U.S. and, therefore, it follows that there will be no question about whether or not the U.S. will get Canada's water? When America decides it is time to bring the water down, the Canadians will have little say about it. Canadians are always whining about their sovereignty being threatened by the U.S. But at the same time they hunger after good U.S. products (and our trash, too) and scurry about trying to be as American as possible. The Canadians should put up or shut up . . . and accept the destiny they have brought upon

themselves.—Gene Payne, Los Angeles, California
