Save our cities

In the article on Vancouver, We Can Keep Vancouver Livable (January), I notice that credit for preventing the City Council from cutting down trees and widening the streets in the West End was given to SPEC (The Society for Pollution and Environmental Control). In fact the campaign was instigated and organized by the West End Community Council; SPEC was only one of a number of organizations that helped them with it. I am delighted to hear that Mayor Tom Campbell is worried about SPEC; that means we are doing our job.

>k Maclean’s is at its best when it does a series like Save Our Cities. This is one of the main reasons why a person subscribes to the magazine and why Maclean’s has such an important role to play in helping us to know, understand and appreciate our vast country.

sk The series, Save Our Cities, dealing with urban problems makes Maclean’s a truly Canadian magazine. This is a big step from the flag - waving nationalism that has appeared in the past.
