CRYING FOUL

After reviewing the record of House of Commons debate, Speaker John Fraser concluded that Prime Minister Brian Mulroney did not swear at another member of Parliament. The allegation arose when opposition MPs accused Mulroney of calling Liberal MP David Walker a “fucking bastard” during Question Period. Several MPs said that they heard Mulroney utter the profanity after Walker accused him of withholding a UN report on child poverty in order to have his picture taken with children in the Commons rotunda. Mulroney denied making the remark, which was not audible on I tapes of the session.
