Shocked residents of Aylmer, Que., attempted to put
their lives back together after a tornado wreaked havoc in their small community across the river from Ottawa. Miraculously, police said only 25 people suffered minor
injuries from flying glass and debris, despite widespread destruction, estimated to exceed $3 million. At week’s end, about 30 houses remained empty—either because they were destroyed or were too badly damaged to be occupied safely.
