John Intini starts a sentence ... Gary Busey finishes it

Gary Busey should be dead. But somehow the well-known character actor escaped— although barely—a motorcycle crash resulting in brain surgery in 1988; a cocaine overdose in 1995 ; and the removal of a giant tumour from his sinuses two years later. He even claims to have suffered from multiple personality disorder. But Busey, 59, lives on. He’s currently starring in I’m With Busey (Comedy Network) with comedy writer Adam de la Pena. Busey, a native of Los Angeles, recently finished Maclean’s Assistant Editor John Intini’s sentences.

TO THOSE WHO SAY I’M CRAZY ... I hope God blesses them all. People have ideas about others and project that on them but actually feel it about themselves.

THE MOVIE ROLE I WISH I HADN’T MISSED OUT

ON ... was in Urban Cowboy. They called for three months, but for some reason I didn’t want to do it. That would have been a good one, but I had a different mindset then. CHEATING DEATH ... is something I know because I’ve been dead. After my massive brain surgery I stopped breathing. But death is an earth word. Death is not something that should be feared. Those people who dress in black and cry at funerals are only thinking about their own feelings.

I’VE BECOME REALLY GOOD AT . . . flying a plane backwards.

ESSENTIAL BUSEY

1.Was the last man killed on Gunsmoke. 2. Was a drummer with Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson before turning to acting 3. Career peaked when he earned an Oscar nomination playing the lead in The Buddy Holly Story.

THE TOUGHEST ACTOR TO WORK WITH ... is

me. When you’re insecure, anxious, panicked and depressed you go into your own little place to protect yourself. I am the one that is always difficult.

MY MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES . . . total 14. I

appreciate what they did for me when I was in fear, but they’ve done their time. I respect them very much but they don’t run the show anymore.
