Canada has its own college basketball tournament with its charms and heroes, but we mustn’t let national pride blind us to the obvious: that the annual NCAA hoops tournament has surpassed even the Super Bowl as the premiere obsession for fanatics and fair-weather fans alike. So staggering is the monthlong orgy of underdogs, overpaid coaches, recruiting violations and office gambling that who eventually wins is altogether moot.
