I cannot begin to tell you how saddened I was to read about the Canadian government’s plan to cut back on the armed forces (“Meaner and leaner,” Cover, June 17). While most people would like to think that we do not need soldiers, they are fooling themselves. Even in today’s so-called enlightened times, we still need protection.
